YouthBuild Charter School

On-site high school diploma completion program.

About Local Conservation Corps

Corpsmembers are required to enroll and progress in an academic program concurrent to their full or part-time enrollment in the LCC’s paid skill-building vocational training programs. Corpsmembers lacking a high school diploma enroll in the on-site YouthBuild Charter High School of California (YCSC). High school graduates enroll in college classes which are offered each semester. Through the LCC’s College and Career Center, corpsmembers have the opportunity to explore and prepare for postsecondary and career pathways. Corpsmembers enroll in AmeriCorps which allows them to earn an education award (college scholarship) while serving their community.

Landscaping

Corpsmembers work on crews providing our community landscaping services that focus on conservation of water resources and improvement of air quality. Crews work on a variety of projects including updating irrigation, water-wise landscaping design and planting, and tree planting and maintenance.

Public Lands and Trail Conservation

Corpsmembers working in small crews assist with a variety of conservation and natural resource management  projects on public lands (open spaces, National Parks, Forest Service Lands) and other properties including – restoring wildlife habitat along rivers, providing fire prevention services – chain saw work, maintaining and building hiking trails, and providing maintenance on recreational facilities.

Recycling

Corpsmembers can have an opportunity to serve their community at large-scale events by picking up CVR recycling, participating in electronic recycling and tire waste events, and learning how recycling gets processed.

Since 1993, Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps (LCC) has been operating a Recycling Program sponsored by the Department of Conservation.

Our program targets businesses, schools, office complexes, government agencies, and campgrounds generating large volumes of California Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers (aluminum cans; plastic and glass bottles). LCC also provides special event recycling at large-scale community events throughout the Central Valley. Learn more

The public can redeem their CRV beverage containers for cash at the LCC’s Friant Buyback Center located at 17108 N. Friant Road, Friant, CA 93626.

Solar

About YouthBuild Charter High School of California

High School Diploma Completion

Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps hosts an onsite high school diploma completion program offered through a partnership with YouthBuild Charter High School of California (YCSC). YCSC Fresno students, aged 18-29, get a second chance to earn a high school diploma and to prove that they are competent and engaged learners.

YCSC holds a unique place in the landscape of California’s public charter schools. As a competency-based dropout recovery school, it seeks to provide a high school education that leads to a diploma for a distinct group of students. YCSC students come from low-income families and underserved communities, and have previously left or been pushed out of the traditional school system without a diploma.
